Tonight I post this update with a very heavy heart as I just got news of the passing of one of Australias most influential artist and agitators - Gordon Bennett. Gordon paved the way for the contemporary Indigenous Australian art scene internationally. His skill talent and voice spanned many generations. He inspired many generations of artists including me. Gordon and I where mates & a bit of a mentor for me when I was a young emerging artist - I met him at the pool we would swim together every morning and stop every few laps to talk about art, life and plot to drown the mayor - Yvonne chapman who was doing aqua aerobics in the next lane. One day when swimming we almost collided and we both freaked out at the thought of us morphing into one artist & what a disaster that would have been. There are so many memories that he leaves behind - he was a shy and gentle soul taken too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. You will be sadly missed but you leave behind a huge huge footprint. RIP Gordon.
