Tonight I read--out loud--a beautiful and moving, and deeply encouraging, essay by the late, great scientist (paleontologist), Stephen Jay Gould. Its about getting a really bad diagnosis. And holding onto ones heart, and optimism, even as the world prepares your obituary. I share it here. (Incidentally, this was written in 1985, not long after Stephen Jay Gould was diagnosed with a deadly form of cancer that offered a median survival of eight months.
