Tonight, Im feeling a certain schadenfreude joy watching conservative pundits and commentators wither around like snakes in the desert sun. There are so many similarities between the cases of #EricGarner and Michael Brown - eerie almost. The difference is we have one homicide (coroners word, not mine) live on tape. Im conscious of a friends comment on one of my threads today about the close-mindedness of those who only watching Fox News AND those who refuse to watch Fox at all, and in that spirit, I tuned in to hear Bill OReillys opening salvo on my drive home. Actually quite amusing. And as of yet, there isnt a convenient way to triangulate away from a white officer killing an unarmed black man again, like destruction of property, so theyre left to suffer though the facts and make sense of them. OReillys thing - to fire the coals of political divide - was to criticize NYCs mayor for not siding with the cops - and heavent to mercy - the havoc and lawlessness that could unleash (oh please, oh please)!!! The problems for conservatives is the elephant in the room: racism. These cases are exposing failures in our institutions due to racial bias. If you cant discuss the real issue underlying the news, then barring the next convenient sidetrack, youll be left to chasing your tail in a big, wide circle. Which is so much fun to watch ; )
