Tonight Im thinking a lot about how to walk the line between believing the best of people, and believing that this kind of thing is happening all around us. I see intelligent, highly trained counselors advising us to communicate with empathy even to abusers, but Ive been told in the past that that kind of communication to an abuser can, and often will, be used as a weapon against the empathetic one whos trying to understand (and I have firsthand knowledge of this). Do you think that the people who did this will benefit from our empathy? Im not asking this with an agenda. I really do hope to get this answer someday.
