Tonight and this Weekend. A look at Monday... And a likely Major - TopicsExpress

Tonight and this Weekend. A look at Monday... And a likely Major Winter Weather event shaping up for the end of the month. For Tonight: Rain will get into the area fairly soon, but shouldnt pick up in earnest in the southern valley until about 2am. For Knoxville, that rain will be a bit later in arriving but should be more or less in that area by 5am. Low tonight, mid-but-mostly-upper 30s. *Might* get a snow flake or three tomorrow morning. Not really expecting that at all, but the temps may cause a few. If that happens, it will be a very brief shot of snow or perhaps a mix. No travel worries expected. Rain will continue all day tomorrow and into Saturday. Low Friday night/Saturday morning in the mid-30s. Shouldnt dip below freezing. However, there is a shot of snow expected right at the tail end of the rain well have between now and then... this could result in a dusting, perhaps a bit more, in the valleys. In the higher elevations, totals could be up to 1 of snow. For most places though, this is not currently expected to leave more than a trace of snow. By the time rain tapers off Saturday morning, close to an 1 of rain is expect region wide. Monday: Next shot of rain comes Monday. Chances are generally better for precip of any kind in the northern areas. However, there is currently a small chance of precip for the southern valley as well. Some of this precip, especially early Monday morning, could be in the form of snow. It is much tougher to figure out exactly what will happen Monday morning as opposed to the situation leading into this coming Saturday. Mondays system is going to be moving quicker, its timing is in question, and depending on if the clipper stubs up some over our region... the situation could change significantly enough to where we have to worry about a travel problem for Monday morning. As we know more for the timing etc Monday, we will be sure to post here. The Bear in the Woods: By this time next week, I strongly suspect there will be only one real weather story in the US. I also suspect well be involved in a significant way in that weather story. Even this far out, snow... a major snow, seems more and more likely for the time frame following January 30th. This is showing as the best chance of major snowfall weve seen in the past year, and possibly truly beastly in proportions. So far out, so much can change between now and then. As always, take nothing to the bank yet. Still, this is looking like a major league weather system that is going to impact our area significantly... and even this far out, the implications (good, bad, fun, not so fun) shouldnt be ignored. Refer to our previous posts for a look at one of the model runs for that time frame for further info. I suspect, as time passes, the likelihood of this systems arrival in our region will only increase. More on that as we know more... guaranteed. Be well, and have a great rest of your evening! ~SM
