Tonight as I looked around the dinner table at the 14 family members that were able to make our holiday outing tonight, I was reminded of the journey. I was able to truly feel a moment of both gratitude and achievement. My family would not have been around that table tonight if I hadnt found a purpose. A big why. While living in my addiction for over a decade, family just wasnt a focus of mine. I loved them, but didnt really care to be together. And the family became distant over time. When I joined Keller Williams 4 years ago, within just a year of my rehab stay, I heard about the Big Why. And I tried many times to make something fit. I thought my big why was the freedom to make choices or living a life by design, that kind of thing. And although both of those things are very much true, they didnt inspire me emotionally. And then, 3 years ago this month, my younger brother had a baby girl, Abigail. And my world changed. I was like the Grinch where my heart grew and grew and grew. And with each niece, and nephew and each grandchild that I was blessed with after (oh my there are a lot), it grew again. I suddenly realized that I wanted to bring my family together in a way we had never been before. It suddenly mattered. I do everything I can for them now. And I wake up with a burning desire to earn more so I can do more for them and with them. This month, Im taking a very large, uncomfortable leap and am going to Nashville to see my estranged Father who actually signed away his parental rights when we were young. I was told he has Parkinsons disease and if I wanted to see him in health, now is the time. So I booked the trip. Ill get to see my sister while Im there as well. Purpose does amazing things to drive us. We will do what it takes when it matters. We just have to discover what really matters.
