Tonight as I was walking out to the dumpster to dispose of the - TopicsExpress

Tonight as I was walking out to the dumpster to dispose of the do-do bag (I just cleaned the cat box) I was beating myself up with self talk Im 51 years old! Why havent I accomplished more? The days are slipping by, why havent I been making more progress? After I opened the lid and threw in the bag, I turned around and headed back toward The House that Avon Built. I stood there for a few moments to take it all in. I looked at the little window that leads to the room over my mothers house where I lived for 2 1/2 years not so long ago when money was still tight. We not-so-lovingly called it the jake break room because the window at the road end perfectly picks up the sounds of breaks when truckers put them on at the crest of the hill and reverberates the sound through the room. You had to use the office bathroom, the room in the attic had no facilities at all. (try making your way down the stairs, around the corner, through 2 doors and 2 halls in a hurry in the middle of the night when you have to go pee) I lived there for 2 1/2 years with my surly ex-husband (Ive since released him to move on to another opportunity) and 4 cats. Thinking about the Jake Break room while I looked at my big, beautiful house that I was able to build as an addition on to my mothers made me realize that I have come a long way! While it was all happening, it always seemed slow then, too; but I was continually making progress. And I am making progress now -- even if it doesnt feel like it at the moment. I need to just keep my goals in focus and get up every day with intention and purpose. Work toward what I want and do things every day that brings me closer and closer. So you see, it doesnt matter how far along on this journey you are -- there are days when it feels like nothing is going right. It feels like progress will never come fast enough. Take a moment and look. Look at what you have already achieved. Take it all in and be thankful and grateful. Then pick yourself up, dust yourself off and throw yourself at your plan again. We all experience lows, negative self talk and doubts. The trick is not to let it stop you.
