Tonight at 7 p.m. in the kitchen (following contemplative prayer - TopicsExpress

Tonight at 7 p.m. in the kitchen (following contemplative prayer and Evening Prayer with the Eucharist) we will begin our Lenten discussion of scriptures and concepts drawn from the Lectionary. This conversation does not require any special skills or background; all are encouraged to attend and we will keep the discussion to about an hour. For those who wish to participate, to spark the conversation we are using a book by Franciscan Priest Richard Rohr, a contemporary theologian who a few years ago gathered some of these readings in a book called Wondrous Encounters: Scripture for Lent. We have copies of this book for participants, so we don’t think Fr. Rohr would mind us pasting this week’s readings below to prepare people for tonight. During the discussion, you will have your own copy of the book to look at. You’ll note that the scripture language is unique. It is not cut from a specific translation but is Rohr’s own synthesis of several traditional and contemporary translations. (Remember, also: Evening Prayer continues every evening, Monday through Thursday at 6:30 p.m., during Lent.)
