Tonight at 7pm we are hosting a free concert to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Bond of Friendship between Coventry and Stalingrad – the first twin cities of the modern world. The Volgograd Childrens Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Yuri Ilynov. Now in their third year, the young people aged between 10 -17 years of age have played in Moscow, St Petersburg, Prague, Nessebar and in other cities in Russia and are the only childrens symphony orchestra in the Russian Federation. Young people from Coventry and Birmingham are also taking part in the concert, including the Blue Coat School Choir and the Coventry Youth Wind Orchestra. Young people performing together illustrates perfectly the incredible impact that reconciliation has had not only this generation but also those who were young people 70 years ago. We look forward to strengthening the friendship between our two cities during the next 70 years. Entrance is free, with an optional donation (suggested £5.00).
