Tonight at Ricos Cafe & Wine Bar(322 N. Tejon St.) starting at 7:00pm! John and Susan play here at Ricos every Thursday. Often accompanied by Annie Lenore on clarinet, this group has it all! A sultry blend of Blues, Jazz, Raggae, and Island Blues, these two are a duo not to be missed! Susan Rissman doesnt just sing, she belts out the blues with soul and passion, forcing you out of your seat and onto the floor for some dancing! John started playing the guitar by the time he was 12 years old. Heavily influenced by such greats as Count Basie, Charley Parker, and Big Joe Turner, John was delighted to join the Black Musicians Union Local 627 at the age of 15. Playing in a band at the time, it was their pianists father, Art Smith, who connected him with the Union. Welcomed and embraced like a brother, John began a grateful appreciation of Black music and Musicians which has become the root of his music today.
