Tonight i spoke on BBC London about why the Curzon Soho cinema is - TopicsExpress

Tonight i spoke on BBC London about why the Curzon Soho cinema is such an important institution and why it needs saving. One of the main reasons i moved to london over ten years ago was for the abundance of choice that there was available regarding cinemas, music venues and art galleries. Weve already lost so many great buildings in london which are steeped in history, like in 2009 The Astoria, a really great music venue which was on charing cross road, was closed and demolished for the development of the Cross Rail project. Curzon Soho is such a stunning building, walking through soho at night and seeing its iconic blue neon sign. Its a thing of beauty which should be preserved and its a real gem in the heart of our capital city. Yes, youve got leicester square just round the corner which is full of cinemas offering up the latest hollywood blockbusters but none of them will be screening small independent films like the Curzon does. Curzon soho also shows hundreds of foreign language films and for a city as culturally diverse as london its really important that we cater for all different nationalities..and thats what curzon soho does so well!! We have to make developers think twice about knocking down spaces like the Curzon Soho.
