Tonight in Sydney - Monday 10th Dear Sydney SFS Members/Friends, Just a reminder that the next chapter meetings is on next monday night. Hope to see you there. Regards, Wayne Short ---------------------------------- Dear Sydney SFS Members/Friends, The next chapter meeting of 2014 is coming. Date: Monday, March 10 Time: 7:30 pm Location: Sydney Observatory, Discovery Room (downstairs) Watson Road, The Rocks Speaker: Kerrie Dougherty Australias Early Rocketeers Rocketry in Australia is usually identified with the activities at the Woomera Rocket Range in South Australia, established in 1947. However, in the pre-war decades before Woomera had even been envisioned, a scattered handful of Australian rocketeers, inspired by science fiction and the Spaceflight Movement that swept the world in the 1920s and 30s, carried out rocket experiments in Queensland and Victoria, meeting with varying degrees of success. This talk will present the forgotten stories of these early rocketeers, whose existence is evidence of a local awareness of, and interest in, the possibility of future spaceflight and the rocket experimentation that was going on elsewhere in the world We will also have refreshments available at the meeting. Regards, Wayne Short President, Sydney SFS
