Tonight in our mid-week church service, I finished my prayer at the altar and then sat quietly nearby as Sister Nina continued to talk to Jesus. Her shoulders shook as she called upon the Lord- quite a familiar site to those of us who attend Sanderson C. H. Church. A couple of dear ladies placed gentle hands upon her arms and shoulders and softly prayed along with her. As I sat and watched, my 4 year old daughter walked up to me and took a seat in my lap. Immediately, my mind flashed back to precious saints of God that I had observed as a child- genuine people who knew more than a little about trusting their Heavenly Father! I remember men such as Bro. Burns, Bro. Barclay, Sis. Ruth, and on and on I could go! As I held Ally in my arms I thought again of Sister Nina a few months ago. We held 24 consecutive hours of prayer at the church in regard to the last Presidential election. People came and went- each reporting to the church to pray for the hour by which they had placed their name. My shift was late in the evening since I typically work late into the day. I arrived at the church shortly after dark for my 60 minutes of prayer. As I walked through the door, I saw Sister Nina who had faithfully come to pray for her nation even though she was very physically ill. In her weakened state, she lay prostrate on the pew and began to pray in an agonizing tone. My heart was smitten and I decided that if she could make it one hour I could make it two! How she inspired me! So tonight, with a precious elder praying near me and my little girl in my arms I paused to thank God that my children have such wonderful examples of Pentecost such as I had in my youth! I drew Ally near me and whispered in her ear "Ally do you love Jesus?" She responded "Yes!" And one day, if Jesus has not come by then, I pray that my little girl will be the prayer warrior to inspire some little girl somewhere in the future!
