Tonight is a sad night for me. Yesterday, my 13 yr. old AST had to be put to sleep. Her name was Karma & she developed Lymphosarcoma. I first met her at our local shelter (6 months old) & asked why a sign was on her cage that said Not adoptable. I was told that she was one of the Pit Bull breeds & was banned in most towns in my area. Since I lived in the country & there was no such ban in my area, I offered to foster her (the day before she was to be euthanized). (Thats how she got her name because she had good karma that day.) It didnt take me long to give her a forever home. I had raised all sorts of dogs in the past 50 yrs & I even raised timber wolves for 15 of those yrs. But this dog was so different from all the others. She was smartest dog Ive ever known, she had game & energy & such personality. Very protective of my family, yet gentle to my son with Cerebral Palsy. This dog taught me to love & respect the misunderstood Pit Bull breed (the only breed I will ever own). I though I was teaching her all those years but she was really teaching me. Thank you sweet Karma, you will be sadly missed.
