Tonight is the annual West Sacamento Tree Lighting Celebration, 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. outside City Hall, 1110 West Capitol Ave. The free event features music and carols by local community groups and holiday refreshments of coffee, hot cocoa and cookies. The celebration is hosted by the West Sacramento Chamber of Commerce, the City of West Sacramento and is sponsored by Capitol Yards. Performing choirs include River City High School, the West Sacramento Community Singers, and the Russian Evangelical Baptist Church Youth Choir. The event also marks the first appearance of the season for jolly old Santa, wholl pose for free family photos from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Following the tree lighting is the Holly Jolly After Party at the City Hall Galleria, 1110 West Capitol Ave., first floor. The After Party is expected to continue until 8:30 p.m. Then on Monday, the annual Santa Run through West Sacramento begins for six nights. Our citys Fire Department, in conjunction with the West Sacramento Firefighters Association sponsors this wonderful annual tradition. Each night at 6pm, we lend Santa one of our fire trucks as a sleigh for him and his off-duty firefighter elves as they hand out candy canes throughout the city. Santa will also have a pickup truck following his sleigh with helpers collecting canned food donations for those in need. Santa cant get to every single street in the city, but theres a good chance hell be in your neighborhood or nearby. Wednesday, Dec. 10, Old West Sacramento: Deerwood, Lakewood, Fernwood, Sonora, Haverhill, Meadow, Webster, Virginia, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland. Thursday, Dec. 11, Southport North East: Kinsington, Aster, Manchester, Gateway, Sausalito, Sansome, Hearst, Randolf, Mojave, Merced, Rubicon, Ironwood, Spruce, Redwood, Alder, Limewood, Almond, Peppertree, Peachtree.
