Tonight is the night before the Tevis, and there will be many riders so hyped up/nervous/eager that they won`t get much sleep. Ten years ago, I was sleeping in a tent in Robie Park near where Rett Butler was tethered to a trailer on a high tie. I set my watch for 3:45 AM, and I`d finally gotten sound asleep when that BEEP BEEP BEEP went off. Still totally dark, bright stars, as we mounted up around 4:45 for a 5:15 start. What an adventure that was. I rode for 21 hours, finished 75th out of 249 riders.
