THE WARM UPS JOHN MEYERS BLUES EXPRESS STEVE TALLIS AND THE HOLY GHOSTS The Warm Ups are inspired by second-wave blues artists like John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Otis Rush, BB King, Albert King and Buddy Guy. This band plays sets that thrill, get you in the groove and make you feel like dancing. The Warm Ups’ repertoire contains cuts from artists like Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Sonny and Brownie, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Cray, Willie Dixon, and Elmore James. They also play original blues compositions featuring blistering guitar work and alternative structures and rhythms. John Meyer is an ‘old rocker’ at heart. For a guitarist who never envisaged playing beyond his twenties, he found it staggering that he was inducted into the WAMIA Rock ‘n’ Roll of Renown in 1993, and the WAM Hall of Fame in 2004, in recognition of his extensive music career. He still performs, mainly at the Perth Blues Club and Blue to the Bone, with a spin-off of the John Meyer Band called John Meyer’s Blues Express. Now settled in Perth, John Meyer shows no signs of slowing down. Working six days a week recording in his studio, tutoring guitar privately, playing the occasional gig and, writing jingles for TV and radio. Blues Shaman Steve Tallis returns to Perth after living in Paris since 2008 to launch his new album The First Degree. The album was produced by, and features, Skip McDonald (Little Axe) and Evan Jenkins. His most deeply personal album yet was recorded (live) and mixed in two days and three nights. Celebrating his 52nd year as a musician, Steves Holy Ghosts’ line-up is exciting, intense, interesting, challenging, and unique. It features Phil Bradley on guitar, Hans-Aage Deberitz on bass, Yugon Chobanoff on drums and of course, Steve Tallis on vocals and guitar. Steve was awarded an Arts WA Contemporary Music Fellowship in 2003 to study, compose and tour with master musicians in Africa, India and Greece. Steve Tallis is unique, fiercely independent and is not a man to be compromised.
