Tonight on the eve of Veterans Day I find myself reflecting on the character and courage of those I served with. We saw the end of a drug cartel in Panama, a dictator in Iraq and a tribal system in Afghanistan that punished women for having the temerity to aspire to learn to read. It was an era of self-sacrifice and solemnity. But what I find myself most appreciative of? The next generation of warriors on the wall. From the USAF Flight Sergeant on my team who just returned from Abu Dhabi to the sons of two friends (one USASOC and one USMC) who just returned safely from Afghanistan to the husband of a neighbor and friend still serving abroad. Im humbled to have spent half my life in the company of such fine young men and women. You are why this nation continues to excel. You have my respect and thanks this Veterans Day and for my freedoms on this and all days to come.
