Tonight was a wild night in the neighborhood. At 11:00 PM, while I was working out in my carport, I heard tires squealing and a crash. It was very close by. Running to the front of my house and to the corner one house away, and in the direction of the noise, I could see nothing but other neighbors coming out to also check on what had happened. Soon I was on my cell phone with 911 when some guy, who I thought was another neighbor, came staggering, limping and running past me. I was still on the phone with 911 who was then transferring me to the Sheriffs Office. I continued to follow the strange acting guy, who now had raised my suspicions as he disappeared around the corner of what I knew was a dead-end street. Upon returning to my street corner, the dispatcher told me that they had received a call of a car hitting a house the next street over from mine. I walked around to the next corner where I found that a Acura SUV had smashed into the front bedroom of the house located on the outside of a 90 degree curve in the street. Upon talking to the owner of the damaged house, I realized the guy who came staggering by must have been the driver. She confirmed to me that as she came out to see what was happening, he was getting out of his wrecked car and leaving. Once the police arrived and I gave them a description and about where he went there was soon a manhunt involving several units and police everywhere. Twenty minutes or so later they caught the guy hiding somewhere at the end of the dead-end street. A while later they asked me to come around to where they had him and to verify he was the person I saw. Yep, that was him. Just a few minutes ago I heard the tow truck hauling the abandoned vehicle from my neighbors house. I hope that poor lady gets some rest tonight.
