Tonight we had the scare of our life... an intruder. Yeap you got it right face to face with an intruder. Arthurs blood pressure was up so I let him sleep all day. Woke him up for a late dinner and to take his medication. Had candle lights and the house dim and romantic. We are sitting at the kitchen table (first time having dinner at the kitchen table and I notice some movement at one of the greatroom windows out the corner of my eye, as I looked closer, I came face to face and just feet way from a man attempting to enter our backdoor. Because of the candles he could not see we were sitting at the kitchen table. He was just as startled as me to see us sitting there next to the door. Arthur was medicated (he has Parkinsons) so I didnt know what to do. My scream scared him so he covered his face, bent down and ran into the woods hding something in his right hand. It took the cops an hour to get here even with the intruder on the premise hidding behind a brick wall he had no way out without us seeing him except the heavy woods behind the house. Because it rained today the cops were able to pick up his sneaker tracks leading into the woods. All the lights were on upstairs as was the TV so it was apparent we were home, so this person was coming in knowing we were home and awake only he thought we were upstairs because downstairs was dark due to the candles. Who does that? What did he want and what was he going to do? He was not disguised so I saw his face? My biggest dilemma was getting Arthur to the front door and to safety and it was challenging. Parkinsons affects your response time so it took a lot of effort to get him up from the table and to safety. This was a young African American male who the cops believe targeted us and wanted to come in with us home. Most random burglaries are done while people are at work or out of town. This person was coming in with us home. I am so disappointed in our youth. I think he was scared when he saw me. He probably thought Arthur who is disabled was home alone. My baby had absolutely no sense of the danger until it registered... me screaming danger and run to the front door. We waited at the front door for an hour or more for the Dekalb County Police Department to show up. Had they responded immediately they would have gotten him. There is only one way out of our middle class subdivision and it is through the woods or our court. I will be at the next City Council Meeting. That was totally unacceptable. A family member has come to stay the night till we can get storm doors and bars up tomorrow. Needless to say, I wont be getting any sleep tonight. My biggest challenge was orchestrating Arthurs move from the table where the intruder was hiding behind the wall...needless to say I didnt leave him. I stayed right there and made sure we were both at the front door with my hands literally on the door for an hour waiting for the cops then another hour waiting on our family to get here. When will black on black crime cease. What was he going to do with us knowing we or at least Arthur was in the house and he had no mask. I saw his face? Our youth are killing us!
