Tonight we will lay our heads down and sleep. In that sleep we may dream a world into existence, fully detailed - a complete sensory experience - no different from the one we currently know. Yet that world has no substance - it appears in consciousness alone. The activities, the time that passed, the people we interacted with, the monsters that chased us... all this is merely a show of lights with no substance or independent nature. In the same way, this world we know is very much like a dream. We interact with it - in fact it is also a play of light - it appears in consciousness. The things we see and experience - the sights and smells and tastes and feelings and sounds - these are all arising patterns which have no substance or independent nature. We may wake up within this dream. If we realize that the experience is no more than a play of consciousness, if we realize that each thing has no real substance of its own, no independent nature or existence - we realize that, like the dream, this world is merely a play of Life itself - a play of existence. It is an expression of one IS-ness - and through that capacity called consciousness, it is presently aware. Aware only of itself.
