Tonight we wrapped up the pro rodeo part of the New Mexico State - TopicsExpress

Tonight we wrapped up the pro rodeo part of the New Mexico State Fair and it may have been the best rodeo we have had here in years. The company has worked really hard to build this good rodeo back to the status it once held and with the help of the governor, Sabrina, Ron and all the staff there I think we are well on our way. The champion in the bareback riding was the world champion from Canyon, Texas, Will Lowe with his 86 point ride on R3 Longshot earning him $4,977. Steven Dent was second and the $3,815 paycheck edges him ever closer to Jessy Davis in the 15th position in the world. High mark tonight was Porum, Oklahoma’s Justin McDaniel. His 81 earned him $1493 and will keep him solidly in 14th. In the steer wrestling the Louisiana man Rowdy Parrott was the top man and his 3.4 earned him $3147. None of the men in the bottom of the top twenty in the world earned a great deal with the exception of Seth Brockman. Seth will add another $2153 to hid earnings in this late surge to make the Finals. The team roping was a split between Jake Cooper and Tyler McKnight and Tom Richards and Cesar de la Cruz with a pair of 4.6 runs with each man earning $4357. Tom will not move up any positions in the top 15 but it will certainly put him closer with two weeks left to go. Fast time of the performance went to Erich Rogers and Cory Petska with a 5.2 earning them each $3146. In the saddle bronc riding it was again a tie between Cole Elshere and Allen Boore both with an 82 point score. Both men will take home a check for $4010. Canadian Dustin Flundra snagged a check for $1160 for splitting 4th thru 6th, helping his cause to earn a spot in Las Vegas as he currently sits in the cryin hole (16th). Tonight’s top score went to world champ Cody Wright with an 80 on L23 Hello Dolly. Michael Otero hung on to his lead in the tiedown roping and earned a check for $4536 along with a beautiful hand-tooled rope can for his 7.4 seconds worth of work. Fastest run of the performance went to Hunter Herrin with an 8.1 earning him third. 14th in the world, Clint Cooper roped and tied one in 8.2 earning him $2865 and giving him a little breathing room. In the barrel race it was the lovely Mary Walker and Latte taking the top prize of $3147 along with a silver bracelet from the NM State Fair. Trula Churchill, currently 13th added $2341 to her yearly earnings as did Christine Laughlin for splitting 3rd and 4th. Is that going to be confusing with Christy Loflin and Christine Laughlin both at this years’ NFR? In the bull riding it was the current world leader, rookie of the year leader and a great young man Sage Steele Kimzey taking top honors and $5188 more dollars to add to the mountain of money he has won this year. It is always great to see a “rodeo kid” (somebody raised in the business) do so well. I know his folks are so proud. High ark of the night went to Texas man Chad German. His 86 tied with Tyler Smith for 2nd and 3rd earning them each $3459. Tyler, currently 13th can sure use that extra boost. Elliot Jacoby (15th) also got a nice check for $1902. Tomorrow night it is the CINCH Shootout and it looks to be a dandy. Stay hooked for the results and until then….Happy Trails! Rodeo Rose
