Tonight will be our Vestry meeting. This week is the calm before - TopicsExpress

Tonight will be our Vestry meeting. This week is the calm before the storm so to speak. We will discuss our usual agenda reports starting with prayer and reflection, discussing the financial matters, the distribution of funds for the Upper Room and asking approval by the vestry, reports from the senior and junior wardens, and the Priest in Charge. We also plan to have a discussion on where we have seen Jesus in our community. Might be some very interesting answers. Then we get ready to celebrate Palm Sunday, Passion Sunday as it has become known. The triumphal approach of Jesus into Jerusalem with hosannas and palms. Then as the week goes on there is the Last Supper, or Seder, as the Jews are still celebrating with Passover starting this week on Tuesday evening. Then we watch as our Lord asks his friends to watch with him while he prays in the Garden of Gethsemane. Of course. Friday of next week is Good Friday, not because of the horrible, excruciating, crucifixion, but because of the appearance of our Lord on Easter Sunday. He died for our sins but rose again for our salvation. That is the Good News. Will you be able to join us and Jesus starting at services on Sunday at 8 am and 10 am starting in the Parish Hall? Blessing of the palms will start there with the procession into the church and a dramatic reading of the Passion by our congregational readers. Maundy Thursday service starts with soup and bread supper in the Parish Hall. We celebrate the Last Supper and the Mandate that we love one another as He has loved us. The Garden is where Jesus is betrayed and we leave the Church after the striping of the altar where we take out everything that reminds us of our Living God. Friday the town of Southbury celebrates with our Christian brothers and sisters in the Faith Walk from St. James Lutheran Church to the symbolic Crucifixion at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Many different denominations one singing of Were you there when they crucified my Lord. Very moving to many people. Friday at Epiphany we will have Good Friday service at noon and again at 7 pm. Will you come and spend a time with our Lord as he is laid in the tomb? Our altar will be stripped from Thursday evening, the Tabernacle will be open and empty. The Solemn Collects will be read, Anthems will be said, and we will pray for mercy and grace to the living and pardon and rest for the dead, and to our Church peace. We hope to see many of you join us in this most solemn time of the Christian year. Any questions, please call the church office at 203.264,6357.
