Tonights Overnight TV/Movie Musical Moment. Okay, so its been a few days since the last one. Be forewarned that from here on out its likely to be hit and miss so if you really like these, just check in to see if theres one posted. I have a lot of projects Ive put on the backburner, and it can sometimes take an hour or more for me to write one of these up. But not this one. I read the novel this TV mini-series was based on way before it had even gone into production. It has always been one of the authors biggest sellers and most popular novels. Having seen most of the big screen adaptations of his works fail up to this point in time, he decided to take a hands on approach in bringing this to the screen and undertook the huge task of translating it to the screen. What he ended up with was 1,141 book pages, 460 script pages, 100 shooting days,125 speaking roles, 95 scripted shooting locations in 19 scripted states, 8 hours of screen time and over 4 1/2 hours of music For years it was planned to make this story into a theatrical film, and the author did many drafts to make it of a suitable length for a feature film, and when he couldnt get it short enough they considered breaking it into two separate films before finally letting Rospo Pallenberg write a draft. But before they could make it, the writer was offered the chance to make this mini-series for television. The huge cast included: Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald, Jamey Sheridan, Laura San Giacomo, Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, Miguel Ferrer, Matt Frewer, Ray Walston, Rob Lowe, and many others including a camero by the author. And of course by now you know Im talking about Stephen King, and the mini-series was The Stand based on his novel which was later re-released as a special edition with a ton of pages added (As if it werent long enough.) Even to this day I have mixed feelings about the book and the film. But one thing I dont have mixed feelings about is the opening, which was a creepy as it gets especially when they chose this classic song which fit perfectly. Shortly after The Stand opens, a biological man made virus escapes from a government financed labratory, immediately killing everyone in the building except one guy, the guard at the gate. Sensing something has gone wrong, he grabs his wife and kid and escapes the compound. All fruitless of course. There was no saving him or his family and his escape did nothing more than start the spread of the disease world wide. And what about those in the lab. Well, see for yourself. The TV Minseries, The Stand, and the Musical Moment is provided by Blue Oyster Cult doing their cult classic Dont Fear The Reaper. More than appropriate I would say. youtu.be/WUAvTn3uz5w
