Tonights adventure is one of the reasons I love living in this city: So I get approached by a septuagenarian French lady who is lost. She asks in very broken English if I can help her. I decide to guide her to her friends house as I was walking that way anyway. Once at the apartment in Chelsea, the lady, whose name is Nicole, motions for me to go in. Trusting my instincts and deciding this isnt some weird scam, I accept her invitation. At the flat, another octogenarian French lady (Etiennette) opens the door and invites me in. I meet yet another octogenarian (Janine) and the three ladies talk to me in French and offer me a glass of champagne as thanks for helping Nicole. Then Etienette says Im invited to join them for dinner at a bistro round the corner. So I then spend my Monday night enjoying rose wine, risotto and tiramisu with three elderly French ladies Ive only just met! It was such a joy listening to their histories... Nicole used to be a pilot and Etiennettes father was a bedouin in the North African desert. After this meal, I helped Nicole find her tiny French car and then drove with her through Chelsea to go and get Janine, ready for their trip back to France. So random but so wonderful too. Oh and Ive been asked if I want to stay in their gite in Brittany now, Lol. As my mum said, This could only happen to you Mark, only you.
