Tonights step back in time features photos from the 1939 Simpson Desert expedition of Cecil Madigan. Madigan was a geologist who undertook both aerial and ground surveys of Central Australia, and was also part of Sir Douglas Mawsons famous Antarctic expedition from 1911-1914. He gave the Simpson Desert its European name after the president of the South Australian branch of the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia.
