Tony Abbott says he is going to shirt-front Vladimir Putin when he arrives in Brisbane for the Heads of Government Meeting. My oh my, if ever Abbotts minder should have reined him in. I have an image of this statement being meant in all seriousness instead of figuratively or metaphoricaally and what a farce of a meeting it will be. Heres Abbott trying to look better than Bill Shorten who said he will simply not be meeting Putin because of his connection with the deaths of 27 Australians on MH 17, reputedly brought down by use of Russian missiles. This to my way of thinking is bad enough - you dont get someone to change their mind by refusing to even talk to them. Tragically, Abbott must have seen this as a chance for outdoing Shorten in a pissing contest in his mind, so he says this nonsense about shirt-fronting Putin. This school-time boxer whose efforts of late have been restricted to verbally beating up ladies wearing burqas and even that he lost, is going to grab an ex-KGB spy by the shirt front and do what? With Putins martial arts training I would think Abbotts next act would be to bleed and bruise a lot and go unconscious. He should contact Vladimir Putin immediately and explain that the statement was metaphorical and perhaps a little bit ill-advised. That way he can embarrass himself and not the rest of us.
