Tony Abbott took his traditional Aussie booing from the NRL Grand - TopicsExpress

Tony Abbott took his traditional Aussie booing from the NRL Grand Final crowd very well, certainly better than Gough Whitlam, as Barry Cohen recalled: It was 1975 and Labor was not exactly at its peak. Senator Ron McAuliffe, president of the Queensland Rugby League, invited Gough to launch the final of the Brisbane Rugby League at Lang Park. Although Gough was monumentally disinterested in sport, he accepted. As the two walked out to the centre of Lang Park, the mob went berserk. They hissed, booed, threw meat pies, beer cans and anything they could lay their hands on to show their affection for Gough and the Labor Party. When they finally quietened down, Gough kicked off. As they walked off, the PM turned to his colleague and said McAuliffe, dont you ever invite to me to a place where youre so unpopular. https://youtube/watch?v=UHCUyrZG0Wg
