Too Hot to Trot...No Turkeys! It seems that the storm from Day 12 has brought in very cool nights and the start of stinking hot days. So its on with 4 layers of clothes at 6.00am and a gradual removal of the layers by 9.00am to just shirts!! Snap and I have developed a little morning routine. After the riders have left camp, and Andrew has done most of the packing up, her and I head off walking for about 3kms. Then Andrew picks us up. It was quite warm this morning so by the time we had found the camp at the Barford turkey nest little Princess Snap was pooped. Dont worry she has returned to her usual manic Jack Russell state once again. The smell of food always resurrects her! Turkey nest, I hear you say!! What on earth is she talking about? Well I have mentioned it before and admitted I hadnt a clue what it meant. The photo of the water hole with our camp in the background is in fact a turkey nest. Quite simply a fenced-in dam...heavens knows why they didnt say so in the beginning. The fence is to prevent cattle and horses from using it thereby maintaining the earthen walls. The water is pumped from a bore by the windmill to the turkey nest/dam then onto the nearby concrete trough for animals. They are maintained by the stock route management. We have however come across turkey nests that are not working and dry. In these situations we rely upon our Dyna stored large, 250 litre water tanks for our horses and dogs. We also buy large containers of drinking water for ourselves. The sun has set, a very delicate crescent moon is also setting and the camp fire beckons, but I need to add two more layers of warm clothing before we hit the chocolate mint slices and billy tea!!!
