Too many damn useless and unproductive national holidays in Ghana. - TopicsExpress

Too many damn useless and unproductive national holidays in Ghana. You dont celebrate farmers by just declaring a national holiday in their name. How does it benefit them ? In my village, when the farmer stays from his farm for a day, he cant feed his family. Farmers in Ghana dont need a national holiday in their name, they need the prices of fertilizers subsidized so they can afford. They need the prices of cocoa increased in line with world market prices so that they can enjoy the fruit of their labour and be able to pay for their wards school fees. Farmers want the prices of agrochemicals reduced. Ok, its farmers day, teachers, nurses and all other government workers stay in the house instead of being at work. What happens? How does this benefit the already poor farmer ? Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso are virtually deserts with less fertile soil, rainfall and vegetation cover. Yet, we have no shame importing onions and groundnuts from them when we have abundant fertile soil, annual rainfall, large vegetation cover and hardworking farmers. What prevents us from investing money into the construction of irrigation systems so that our mothers up north and south can farm all year long ? Simply put, our leaders, all of them, have refused thinking. Trust me, in the end, another million of Ghana cedis will be spent organizing the national farmers day, grand durbar, dinner, parties, talkshows ........and what happens ? The real problems and challenges facing farmers Will still persist. WE DONT NEED A NATIONAL HOLIDAY TO CELEBRATE FARMERS, WE CAN CELEBRATE FARMERS BY PROVIDING THEM THE RIGHT MATERIALS AND INCENTIVES THAT CAN HELP INCREASE THEIR YIELDS AND PAY THEM THE RIGHT PRICE FOR THEIR PRODUCE. A nation and continent calls for duty now... Good morning Ghana.........
