Too many people are tagging me to engage in the Book list game - TopicsExpress

Too many people are tagging me to engage in the Book list game that is becoming viral. I absolutely have no idea why I am being dragged into such cerebral an adventure. Was never much into books or anything to do with academics. The most I read are unmentionables, and authors Anonymous, and much later in life a bit of travel literature on the side. So not sure why some, played this practical joke on me. But for the sake of the game, and to hold the joke on me, trying to list 10 rows of book details which have had a deep influence in my life. Books that I keep constantly returning to. I have tried to list it, in chronological order as well. 1)Sohoj Path. Volumes 1-3.. I loved the poems when i memorized them initially and still silently recite from memory when I am down. 2) The Jolly Picnic- A 10-page hard cover story book I got as a Prize from School for Recitation while in Class 1, way back in 1968. 3) The Treasure Hunt: A short novel (which I still havent finished reading), received as a Prize from School in Class 3 for Recitation. The above 2 books are still my prized possessions, as those were the only two institutional prizes / award, that I had ever received in my entire life. 4)Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun. Thanking Devangshu Dutta who led me to it. I did my own personal tribute, following the trail in Peru a few years ago, and possibly some time later, would do the entire trail. The Tintin series remained with me ever since 5)Soldiers of God: a weekly pictorial-booklet which was sold in school every Monday, featuring stories from the Bible. How I used to wait for those 8 page booklets and how much I had to beg my parents for the 25 paisa to buy them. Most of the time, I failed in getting the 25 paisa organized, and I would silently cry when they came to the class rooms selling those books. I still have quite a bunch of them. 6)James Hadley Chase and Nick Carter modulated my coming–of-age. As did the rare Playboys magazines which was a luxury in the early & mid ‘70s 7)The only book that I distinctively remember reading during my schooling years, was: Fear is the Key – Alistair MacLean. I lost touch with books after that except the ones which I had to study for courses. Considering that I passed out with Literature, I sure am the biggest misfit. 8)Returned to books much later with a bit of travelogues: specially, The travel stories of Micahel Palin. 9) It will surprise quite a lot of my friends, that Gitobitan always stays close to my bedside table. a bit of Neruda as well In the last slot, I mention 2 books, which have tormented my life, and still haunt me. While in the finishing years of school, a classmate of mine and also, who was a friend from kindergarten, and in my FB friend list as well, used to ponder over these 2 books, while we were out in the arena playing during lunch break. I used to ask him how he could read and understand such books, and his standard reply being, that he read them as story books, and used to skip the pages he did not understand. I am still, in that state of awe and shock. Decades later I met him last year in Hydeabad Pujo pandal, and related my perennial amazement to him once again. The books ?? 10) Heat and Thermodynamics – Zemansky....... Organic Chemistry – I. L. Finnar... and mind you , these books he used to read while in Class 9. I can never get over this. so not a very enlightening list... but a true list of some books, I hold dear. Unfortunately, I am not much of a reader.. a part observer and a non stop speaker. No pretensions. Being absolutely honest... and for heaves sake please dont tag me in all these misadventures.
