Too much cognitive dissonance in us to realise this gem from Sh Michael Mumisa: For those Muslims angry with the “Happy Muslims” video and expect life to be austere all the time and their scholars [‘ulamāʾ] to be always passing Fatwas on ‘dos and donts’ , rituals, and condemning people to Hell Fire, they should be reminded of the Qurʾānic verse directed at Muḥammad, the Prophet of Islam, praising him for always taking the time to have fun, ‘chillaxing’, and for taking it easy with everyone he came across : فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ لِنتَ لَهُمْ وَلَوْ كُنْتَ فَظّاً غَلِيظَ ٱلْقَلْبِ لاَنْفَضُّواْ مِنْ حَوْلِكَ فَٱعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَشَاوِرْهُمْ فِي ٱلأَمْرِ فَإِذَا عَزَمْتَ فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلِينَ “It was by the mercy of God that you were lenient and gentle to them; had you been stern, harsh, and hard of heart, they would all have deserted you a long time ago. So pardon them, and pray forgiveness for them, and take counsel with them in the affair; but when you reach a decision, put your trust in God. God loves those who trust Him.” (Q3:159)
