Too often I have seen people use lifting programs to prepare for sports. Higher volume, numerous sets, 4-5 times a week gym time and neglecting to think of the other factors involved with sport training: Sport skill Speed Endurance Mobility (a must for all athletes and especially sport) Explosiveness/reaction time Think about what your sport needs and set up a balanced program to help you achieve your goals. Contrary to what some may want to think, strength without the ability to move it through space with power isnt going to translate to success on the field physically. Unless you suck at your sport, then you can be as explosive as Clowney but still look like a benchwarmer on the field. If you are lost as to how to set-up a program to prepare you for sports; that is why strength coaches exist. Find a good one.
