Too often I see Opera and Classical music trying to get into - TopicsExpress

Too often I see Opera and Classical music trying to get into schools or to be reinstated by kicking out or greatly minimizing school Athletics. I believe this is the wrong approach for many reasons. I support both and actually, athletics more Firstly, most athletics are a TEAM sport. One can learn singing and instruments privately, unlike soccer, basketball, football, lacrosse etc. Secondly, obesity and health, from earliest stage of life has to be dealt with and GYM along with diet is essential. Not only is the physical benefits of sports essential for health, mind, spirit but it is absolutely the healthiest and most successful way to promote and establish teamwork and leadership from an early age, most essential for mental and social growth in addifion to best paying salaries in future, PROVEN. Students entering job market with strong athletic leadership resumes are FAR better paid than those who dont. And interestingly, I know of scbools who had to drop atbletics, did add music, and it proved to be a DISASTER so 2 yrs later, they dropped the music and brought back athletics. Ivy League colleges wete not accepting these students. And, the music students themselves MISSED THEIR SPORTS in their schools so the program was a complete FAILURE. the music students as all students felt robbed of not enjoying their sports and their stamina AND GRADES DROPPED. If you want PERFIRMING ARTS in schools, it must start at HOME. Then, propose it in schools, but NEVER INSTEAD OF ATHLETICS!!!! Till then, aspiring talents of the Performing Arts should VOLUNTEER, in their community school by creating a FREE program and if a success, it may earn the way for funding. If THAT PASSIONATE, this is within YOUR POWER to make happen. ATHLETICS STAYS.
