Too often, teenagers get a bad rap. Guess what? There are still some great teens in this world. Let me tell you about one. As some of you will know, my family volunteers every Monday evening at a youth center in Ridgeville, IN. This past Monday evening, there was a certain young man who attended for the first time. Hes a very likable young man. We always have the teens do some duties at the end of the evening, such as sweeping the gym floor, taking out the trash, etc... But this past Monday evening, we went the extra mile and deep cleaned the building due to having the community Christmas program in that faculty this weekend. We swept, mopped, washed windows, cleaned counter tops, cleaned restrooms, and on and on. Many hands make light work. It took us about a half an hour. The young man I spoke of a minute ago was given the task of taking a shop vac and sweeping around the outer edges of the entire gym floor, to get the dirt that a dust mop just wont get. It took him a little while to do this, and he was bent over the entire time. It was a back breaking job. When he was finished with that, he could have just stopped. That was all that we had asked of him. But he noticed something that most others wouldnt. Every eight feet or so, there is a seam in the concrete of the gym floor. Its about a half an inch deep, and over time, it had accumulated quite a bit of debris. He noticed... And swept every single inch of every seam in the gym. Now, you may think, ah, no big deal. No one will ever notice. Who cares about the seams? He did. Without being asked, he saw that a job needed done, and he did it. I complimented him, thanked him, and told him how impressed I was with him, and not just in this instance. This young man has a bearing about him that impresses anyone who meets him. Kudos on a job well done!
