Took 7 kids to the Joe Rios Memorial Tournament in Chico this weekend. Very good and tough tournament with 45 teams. All of the he boys wrestled very well and 5 of the 7 kids made the second day. Dominic Montanez and Jacob Sloma both had outstanding performances and brought home hardware to show for their efforts. Dominic went 5-2 and placed 7th. In his final match he wrestled a kid from Damonte Ranch (NV) that had beaten him earlier in the tourney and avenged that loss with a 4-2 win. Jacob also had an incredible tournament going 6-2 and placing 5th. His 2 losses came to the 2 kids that placed 3rd and 4th. In his final match for 5th, he got down early 5-0 but came storming back and tied the match up at 7 late in the 3rd round to force it to sudden death OT. Jake came out tough in OT and caught the kid in a scramble and put him to his back and got the fall. It was a good tourney for all of the boys and we are all proud of them, especially Dom and Jacob. Way to go.
