Took a break from labor lit today in New Orleans. In a bistro near Rue Dauphine with the best cover band Ive ever heard--fresh original arrangements of Joplin and Jagger, propelled by a 6-string bass--I met a big scruffy guy who wanted to dance. In the afternoon. No way! Are you voting? I asked. Republican?! Why? Because Im unhappy, he said.Why not try something different? What a bummer. This city recycles old music and old ideas but not paper and plastic. Yet it feels like Paris...and look what I found around the corner!
