Took me a little trip up to our local NC Cooperative Extension today. I can not praise them enough for all of their information and guidance. I visited each little individual office seeking knowledge on many topics and boy did they have plenty to share. I picked up my soil sampling kit too. Bonus if i wait until after Monday to send it off then the service is FREE. Yes FREE!! I know right, cant believe it myself. Everyone I encountered was so pleasant and anxious to answer all of my questions. One representative says Oh young lady you just ask away and I will answer after all thats why they pay me the bucks!! So on May 9th I will be attending a day-long course on safe canning practices $5, worth it in my opinion. I cant wait! We covered alot of information in such a short time. We discussed veggies, herbs, soil, water, chicken laws, rain barrels, mulching, etc, etc. Education is key to learning anything new and I really got a good dose today. I came home with so much information, phamplets filled with recipes, new ideas and a big smile! I should have visited them long before now. Thats the most welcoming feeling I have had from this town in the 7 years I have lived here!! Every community has some form of a local Cooperative Extension, get out there and find a office in your area. I bet you wont regret it!!!!
