Took me a while to write this but Sunday we saw Arch Enemy and Kreator We missed Starkill. I wasnt overly upset but I was bummed because I like checking out new things and I hear they had a really solid debut album. We caught the tail end of Huntress. Its a...superokay band. Gets the job done, doesnt really excel at much. Kreator took to the stage with their usual tempest. Setlist was shortened and much the same as the two times I saw them with Overkill last year. We did get Voices, which I dont believe they played when I saw them before. There were some sound balance issues between the band, and the everytime I see Kreator it seems that I can either hear the riffs really well or the solos but never both. Smaller turnout made this easily the tamest time Ive seen them but they still killed it. German music is like German engineering: superior. Arch Enemy was...odd. Maybe it was the small turnout. Maybe it was the song choice (definitely a band whose old stuff>new stuff). Whatever it was I couldnt help but feel like I was watching a dying beast. Theyve taken a few hits recently, Alyssa is a wonderful performer but Angela is a behemoth whose shoes are damn near impossible to fill. I felt much like Id imagine it feels to see Judas Priest with Tim Owens. It was...odd. For what it was I loved it, but I cant help feeling like I should have loved it more, like wearing a comfortable jacket thats also a little big for you. All in all I was pleasantly surprised to see more familiar faces than I expected. It was a fun night.
