Took some pictures this evening of the solution to Cane River Lakes problem of low water. Spoke with the Cane River Waterway Commission a few weeks ago and was told that money was available to put a pumping station from the oxbow from Red River near Hamptons Landing into the Bayou that runs into CRL near Tommys Grocery & Pratts Bridge. This was supposed to be SOON, but how soon I dont know. The first pic is where the water drains from the oxbow into the Bayou, and the others are of the Bayou itself. Didnt see anything of a pumping station but the debris and Bayou looks so wonderful to go spilling into the Lake. What about the upper part of the Lake? I recall a conversation with Mr. Pop Hyams, may God Bless his soul, a number of years ago when he told me that he was laughed out of a City Council meeting where they were discussing the possibility OD dredging the upper Lake to remove silt & sludge there (you can walk across Cane River downtown). He suggested a much less costly way to preserve the Lake by putting a pumping station at the Upper Dam and create a natural stream thus removing silt to the Spillway at the lower end thus solving that problem and keeping a good level in the Lake.......Pop told me that he laughed at them because they thought him crazy.....in his words, and I agree...anyhow for those of us who paid higher prices to live on Cane River Lake & those who come here to spend their tourist dollars to enjoy its beauty....these pictures are of the genius that we must live with......
