Top 6: Most loved footballers 6. Lionel Messi The bickering between worshippers of the churches of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is unprecedented, but pretty much everyone outside of the cult of CR7 accepts Messi is great. The little Argentine is often called the greatest ever and he draws massive crowds wherever he goes, while at the same time seemingly maintaining a relatively down to earth mindset and coming across a pretty decent bloke. For the modern professional footballer that is quite a feat. 5. Thierry Henry Henry is about as close as you can get to a god walking the earth for many Arsenal fans and he has garnered a glowing reputation at both Barcelona and New York Red Bulls subsequently. 4. Xavi Xavi was the one that originally gave hope to those children that werent very big, fast, flashy or strong but still dreamed of making it big (no pun intended). His close control and intelligent movement made elite football about more than just outrunning or out-muscling the opponent. He comes across as, generally, quite decent chap and even played a big role in resolving issues between Real Madrid and Barcelona players in the Spain squad. 3. Paul Scholes There was a point when around Paul Scholes cutting short his retirement when no Premier League presenter or commentator in England could go without saying how incredible it was that he was still going. 2. Gianfranco Zola Zola is a Chelsea legend and one of the most talented foreign stars to have switched to the Premier League - he is also well known for being a genuinely nice man. This is a significant for a former player at a club that isnt always the most popular among rival fans. You would be hard pressed to find a person that would say they really disliked him and not be lying - come on, he always smiling, is always nice to people and is tiny! David Beckham A family man, a winning smile, great at football, Becks pretty much as everything going for him. He gave his PSG wages to a childrens charity, he refused to criticise Sir Alex Ferguson after comments made about him in thew former Manchester United managers recent autobiography and he always wore his heart on his sleeve. Beckham is mobbed wherever he goes around the world and, though there are always a few who will criticise him, most people cant help but love him. What a guy. #IA
