Top Places You Dont Want To Visit #2 The Door To Hell, Turkmenistan While drilling through a desert in Derweze in Turkmenistan in 1971, geologists accidentally found an underground cavern filled with natural gas. The ground beneath the drilling rig collapsed, leaving a large hole with a diameter of about 50-100 meters. This gas reserve is now known to be one of the largest in the world. To avoid any harmful poisonous gas discharge, scientists chose to set the hole on fire. Geologists had hoped the fire would go out in a few days but it has been burning for more than four decades. Locals have named the cavern The Door to Hell.
