Top ranked Kentucky survives Vanderbilt 65-57 With Kentuckys slim lead threatened by a Vanderbilt squad that wouldnt go away and then Aaron Harrison coolly stepped up to drain the clutch a 3 pointer that has become a familiar sight for the top ranked Wildcat. Then his twin brother Andrew Harrison provided a little more cushion with a layup a minute later before Aaron sealed last nights hard fought 65-57 victory with two free throws that kept the Wildcats perfect on a night that featured plenty of blemishes. It was an awesome game, but we were 23 point favorite and only won by 8 points. I guess they were playing as hard as they could to try and beat us and they done a heck of a job playing with all their might. All of those flaws were forgotten thanks to the Harrison’s 11 combined points down the stretch with nine coming from Aaron. Ky. Coach Cal said he thought he’s as good as any player in the country the way he played in the second half of his sophomore guard whom he hugged tight after the tense moments. Aaron Harrison, whose clutch 3pointer’s earned Kentucky three straight NCAA tournament wins last spring where he finished with 14 points which was all in the second half and Andrew Harrison added five points as Kentucky (18-0, 5-0) Southeastern victory with two free throws that kept the Wildcats perfect on a night that featured plenty of blemishes. Aaron said he just wanted to do everything he could to help the team win who made 4 of 7 from the field including two 3 pointer’s I believe Aaron knew he had to get his energy together and he did in the second half which helped him play better. Kentucky needed that resolve to put away Vanderbilt (11-7, 1-4). The Wildcats didnt lead by double digits until early in the second half and that 45-33 advantage lasted briefly as the Commodores began answering from the perimeter to stay within reach. Five combined 3 pointers by Riley LaChance with 16 points and Matthew Fisher Davis who had 13 points helped Vanderbilt pull within 58-54 with 2:36 left. The Commodores never got closer as the Harrisons closed it out for the Wildcats. Damian Jones had 11 points and seven rebounds for Vanderbilt which shot 42 percent in losing its fourth straight and third in a row by a close margin. Fisher Davis missed a 3 pointer with 15 seconds left and Wade Baldwin IV missed another jumper seconds later that Kentuckys Willie Cauley Stein rebounded to seal the game. I thought Vanderbilt did some good things, but they just didnt do quite enough and even thought they might have a chance to beat the Cats. Theres really no consolation in doing some good things and cant do enough to win. I thought we rebounded for the most part fairly well effectively. Kentucky definitely needed every contribution in this game that included 11 missed free throws on 32 attempts. Though the Wildcats led throughout the game they were obviously less dominant than in back to back routs of Missouri and Alabama. Vanderbilt kept that from happening thanks to a steely resolve and 7of 18 shooting from a 3 point range. Coach Stallings from Vandy made sure to keep his young player’s spirits up despite the slump and mainly to keep the Wildcats from seizing on an opportunity and rolling to another rout. That was a tall task considering the Commodores were 23 point underdogs, but they had chances, but then it just went down 22 points before the game. I dont think the Commodores were scared to come in here and play LaChance said of playing in Rupp Arena, but we came in here fired up and thats just how we have to go into every game as he replied. They did have a chance of beating us, but we pulled it out for the win. Now we need to make it 19-0 in the next game and keep on winning, but the Cats need to go in all fired up to make this happen. I believe in them and win or lose as I often say they will always be #1 to me. GO BIG BLUE!!!!
