KD 2,167,000 Take In Residency Fines 70,000 Expats Paid General Department for Residence Affairs closed the year 2014 by collecting fines worth KD 2,167,000 from about 70,000 expatriates who violated the residency law by failing to update the data in their passports at the General Immigration Department, reports Al-Rai daily. According to an official statistic, there are about 2.5 million expatriates in the country and 107,000 of them violated the residency law as of Wednesday, Dec 31, 2014. Meanwhile, a member of the Municipal Council Lawyer Abdullah Al-Kandari says the decision taken by Kuwait Municipality to deport expatriates who grill food in beaches and public parks is unreasonable and unfair, reports Al-Rai daily. He urged leaders of Kuwait Municipality to respect the international law concerning the rights and freedom of foreigners, insisting that punishment of deportation should be given for severe crimes. Al-Kandari also wondered about the need to impose fines and instead called for issuing citations against those who grill food in the spring camps, revealing that the regulations on cleanliness of the camps do not include ban on grilling food in deserts but only in public locations. He affirmed that Kuwaiti citizens and expatriates resort to the desert regions for relaxation especially after the ban on grilling food in public parks and beaches was imposed, adding that he requests Kuwaiti Municipality to impose fines on those who destroy public properties or pollute the environment instead of issuing punishments over arbitrary reasons.
