Top tip number 5- understanding pixels Everybody has this misconception that the higher pixels your camera or phone has the better it is. This is only part true. A pixel is like a building block that makes up the photo and for example in a 2mega pixel camera or phone it means the photograph will be made up of 2 million pixels, 5mega pixel, 5 million and so on. These pixels are most important when printing. Taking the 2MP camera or phone, those 2 million pixels will be stretched to make up the photo for printing if you enlarge and if you go too big the pixels will stretch and blur! So if you want to print just normal sized photographs then 2MP will be more than enough. Anything over 10MP is really unnecessary unless you are aiming to make your prints the size of your flat screen tv or bigger! It is also worth remembering that some of these pixels will be destroyed over time, usually when opening on a computer, creating what is known as dead pixels. With this in mind, always remember to back up your originals on a hard drive or USB pen. Happy snapping, Carol
