Topeka, Kan. - Former Kansas Governor Bill Graves today endorsed Pat Roberts for U.S. Senate. Governor Graves recorded a radio ad that will begin airing statewide today and penned an endorsement letter sent to thousands of Kansans. Governor Graves’ endorsement read in part: “ I have had the opportunity to see Pat’s great work on behalf of Kansas up close and on a regular basis. In his senior role in the US Senate, Pat has consistently advocated for the interests of Kansas and our citizens… “…Pat is a Marine, a hard-worker, a listener and a fighter. He is a reasonable man who understands how to solve problems for Kansans, often working on solutions out of the limelight or behind the scenes to deliver results…” “… Pat is a tough, tested and trusted leader, and we need him in the Senate fighting for Kansas.” In his radio ad Governor Graves criticized Greg Orman saying: “Pat’s opponent Greg Orman would be a vote from Kansas for President Obama. At that time Pat was serving the Kansas “Big 1st” congressional district and I, and most of the Graves family were constituents and already big supporters of Pat. By 1994 when I was elected Governor, Pat had become both a political and public service mentor. He taught me a great deal about the responsibilities of being an elected public official; how to be successful politically but always emphasizing the importance of putting politics aside when the election was over and getting down to the business of taking care of Kansas families and Kansas issues. With Pat providing the leadership in Washington, we were able to accomplish a great deal on behalf of Kansas agriculture, small business owners and working Kansans during my eight years as Governor. I have had the opportunity to see Pat’s great work on behalf of Kansas up close and on a regular basis. In his senior role in the US Senate, Pat has consistently advocated for the interests of Kansas and our citizens. He has worked tirelessly to secure the location and construction of the national Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) in Manhattan, and like me, has always been a strong supporter of an efficient and safe transportation system. His work leading to the successful completion of the South Lawrence Trafficway is a great example of him putting his Congressional experience and clout to work for Kansas. Pat is a Marine, a hard-worker, a listener and a fighter. He is a reasonable man who understands how to solve problems for Kansans, often working on solutions out of the limelight or behind the scenes to deliver results. For example, he helped stop devastating user fees on the general aviation industry and his constituent service operation has helped thousands of Kansans through many years seeking assistance in navigating the complexities of our federal government. I am excited for Pats reelection. He is poised to serve as the Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee and as a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee. Both of these are key posts and important to the future of Kansas and America. Pat will ensure that Kansas agriculture, small businesses and hard-working families get a fair shake as the Senate considers agriculture legislation, regulatory reform and new tax policy.
