Topic of discussion: shielding. So most of the time when discussing science fiction, we talk about shields. So lets talk about shields then :). First of all, the question comes of what KIND of shields are you using to protect against what KIND of threat? For example, lasers can be deflected, but a laser shield wont be effective against an antimatter weapon. And an antimatter field wont be good against a laser weapon. What about EMP blasts? Or radiation? I would say an antimatter field would be best suited for shields, because, as we see, antimatter is what the IXS Enterprise uses to power its warp drive, thus the ability to warp gravitational wells, which means we could effectively make the hull MUCH more dense and protective, but any warping of space time can be warped back the opposite direction. So tell me, what KIND of shields would be most necessary and how/why could we implement them?
