Topic spot - Wife told to pay alimony to ex-cricketerIn a reversal of sorts, a wife will now have to pay alimony to her husband, who had accused her of physical and mental torture.Dalbir Singh, the man in question, is a former cricketer who had hit headlines when he had met with an accident in 2002, which cut his career short. Singh had played with Tendulkar in an under-17 tournament, and had shared a hotel room with the legend. He got married in 2006.In 2010, when he went to Mumbai for further treatment, the expenses were borne by Sachin Tendulkar.Singhs lawyer Bharat Rawal told Deccan Herald: After the accident, Singh was reduced to using crutches to move around even in the house. Rawal said it was his mother who first brought to light the poor condition in which her son was kept.She brought it to the notice of the police, who realised that Dalbir was being ill-treated at home by his wife, Rajvinder Kaur, who would tie him up, said Rawal.He said Dalbir was frustrated with this kind of behaviour, and thus filed for divorce in February 2012.Looking into the complaints and Dalbirs plight, Gandhinagar family court magistrate D T Soni directed Kaur to pay her husband alimony of Rs 10,000 per month.Rawal said while pronouncing his judgment, the magistrate relied on the accounts of the couples neighbour Kamlesh Trivedi and a police officer who had observed Singhs condition at his residence in Sector 22 of Gandhinagar.Trivedi told the court that Rajvinder used to tie Dalbir up, while the police officer had told court that the former cricketer was always locked up in a room and let out only after the neighbours complained.
