Torah Reading for the Week: Adar II 7 - Adar II 13. 5774. Leviticus 6:1-8; 36. Deuteronomy 25:17-19. Prophets: 1st Samuel 15:2-34. Be Strong, Be Strong and be Strengthened! Quote for the Week: “Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way as ye came forth out of Egypt; how he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, all that were enfeebled in thy rear, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not G-d.” Deuteronomy 25:17&18. ...... And he feared not God! I guess that is the most criminal of crimes - having no fear of God. Sadly that is the bane of todays people, leaders and countries. The world is immersed in a total and complete lack of Godliness, many do not fear God, great hosts have no respect for the things of God. They treat with contempt and reckless disdain all that pertain to God. Yet, it is written that, “The fear of HaShem is the beginning of knowledge; Proverbs 1:7. Yes, you are not knowledgeable, wise unless you fear God. But what does it really mean, to fear God? The answer is not far fetched nor encoded in some secret scrolls that are not available to man, rather it is open in the Scriptures, yet few harken to it. The Sages long ago defined and recorded, and it is written that, The fear of HaShem is to hate evil; pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, Proverbs 8:13. But today, evil is glorified as the new norm while good is rejected as oppressive and discriminatory. People of the world are puffed up with pride and in their arrogance they forget that it is God who gave them the power to make wealth and become whoever and whatever they, just as it was prophesied in the Scriptures: “.....and thou say in thy heart: My power and the might of my hand hath gotten me this wealth. But thou shalt remember HaShem thy G-d, for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth,” Deuteronomy 8:17&18. When we truly fear HaShem, we will honour Him with obedience to His every command, turning neither to the left nor to the right, but holding on steadfastly to His righteous decrees because our well being lies not in the power of our hands nor in the might of our alliances. Rather our well being lie in His hands, for by Him, kings reign, and princes decree justice. By Him princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth. And He loved them that love Him, and those that seek Him earnestly shall find Him. The Psalmist also wrote saying that, “The fear of HaShem is clean, enduring for ever; the ordinances of HaShem are true, they are righteous altogether; More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” Psalm 19:10&11. If we fear Him, we will indeed keep His charge like all those before us, we will obey and not rely on our own understanding - an understanding that is bereft of the righteous principles of HaShem. However, if we follow Him diligently, He will instruct our steps according to His will for it is written: “The counsel of HaShem is with them that fear Him; and His covenant, to make them know it.” Psalm 25:14. This week, as we embrace the diverse cultures of the peoples of the world all around us, and avail ourselves of the many opportunities that life presents, let us be wiser than Saul. Knowing that the riches of the earth and the beauties of it will frizzle out and fade, but the word of the Eternal endures for ever. It is of no value to please men and dishonor God. The virtues of men are unstable and corrupt, but the principles of the Eternal are firmly anchored upon justice and mercy and endures forever. We have been blessed with the power of choice, the ability to discern. All we contemplate is based between honour - obedience and dishonor - rebellion. Which will you choose? Kol Tov! - All the best! (and), Shavua Tov! - Have a great week!
