Sept. 03, 2013 Activity AB English 111 Statement of the Problem This study will assess the degree of application of the classroom techniques and methodologies utilized by the language teachers of Cebu Technological University- Argao Campus to the AB English students which is in concordance to the study of intercultural pragmatics or degree of politeness in speaking of different speech communities, as depicted in Filipino classrooms. This work will seek to address the following questions: 1. What is the degree of application of the common pragmatic and cultural techniques by the language teachers of Cebu Technological University? 2. As perceived by the respondent groups, what is their level of satisfaction on the pragmatic techniques of the language teachers? 3. What are the dominant reasons why language teachers of Cebu Technological University-Argao Campus utilized those pragmatic and cultural techniques in teaching the target language? 4. Do you think language and culture are mutually intertwined? Why or why not? 5. What is the significance of intercultural pragmatics in building a better career in the future? Research Variables Independent Variable- degree of application of the common pragmatic and cultural techniques by the language teachers of CTU-Argao Campus. Dependent Variable- the level of satisfaction of students on the pragmatic techniques of the language teachers. Moderator Variable- motives or dominant reasons of the language teachers on why they utilize those given pragmatic techniques. Control Variable-interpretations of student-respondents on the pragmatic techniques utilized by their language teachers. Intervening Variable-rating or rank given by the student-respondents to the pragmatic techniques utilized by the language teachers of CTU-Argao Campus.
